Orbit & Oculoplasty


This department takes care of the orbit and other appendages of the eye, like; eyelashes, eyelids. It also comprises of lacrimal system of the eye.

What is Oculoplasty?

Oculoplastic surgery is the cosmetic, corrective, and reconstructive surgery of the eye.

This department deals with various disorders of orbit, eyelids and Lacrimal system.
This department involves the socket in which the eye is placed and also the related structures around the eyes, like eyelid, eyelashes, lacrimal apparatus etc.

Causes & Symptoms

Following are the causes of developing any abnormality in ocular appendages-

  • Post traumatic ecchymosis- bluishness of eye
  • Painful/ painless swelling in eye lids
  • Protruded mass from eyelids

    Dr. Raka Chatterjee did her MBBS from NRS Medical College and her MS in Ophthalmology from MKCG Medical College. She did a short term fellowship in cataract surgery at LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad. She did two year long term fellowship at Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai in Orbit, Oculoplasty Reconstructive and Aeshetic Surgery and cataract surgery. She has papers published in peer reviewed journals and she has authored a few book chapters. Her areas of interest are surgeries involving the eyelids, lacrimal apparatus and Orbit in children & adults and ocular aesthetic surgery for enhancing the beauty of the face and eyes and also cataract surgery. At present she is working as a Consultant Ophthalmologist in Susrut Eye Foundation & Research Centre.
