HISTORY:
Susrut Eye Foundation & Research Centre is a Super specialty eye care centre in Eastern India with an expertise in Training & Development in Ophthalmic field. Susrut Eye Foundation & Research Centre has been declared as “Centre of Excellence” in Eye care for the State of West Bengal and is an active member of “Vision 2020” for its service orientation, modern ophthalmic techniques and its community-based outreach activities which deliver quality eye care to the community people. We started with a mission to eradicate avoidable blindness. Over the last 10 years, Susrut has contributed extensively for prevention of blindness in the country.
INTRODUCTION
Education and Training programme was started to cater all levels of Ophthalmic Training. These are intended not only for Ophthalmologists but also for Optometrists in clinical refraction, low vision services, dispensing optics and contact lenses, early detection of ocular problems .As well as the training programmes are also applicable for opticians, clinical assistants, outreach coordinators and health care managers. These training programmes are both long term and short term, and some of these are affiliated to local universities. Through training programme we emphasize to train professionals in the field of Eye care with sound theoretical & practical skills to excel in their respective domain.

CONCLUSION
Dissemination of knowledge and skills in eye care will not only satisfy the needs of the institution but also take care of the needs of the country. The institution along with Alcon deliver PHACO training programme for the Ophthalmologist to improve their capacity to provide high volume, high quality care and enabling them to become financially self-reliant in the long run.
